Man in court after R5m Hammarsdale drug bust

A truck driver will appear in the Hammarsdale Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was allegedly caught with drugs valued at R5.2 million.
Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says they were tipped off about suspicious cargo being offloaded at a warehouse in the town, west of Durban.

Members of the Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation went there to conduct a search.
"They proceeded to the warehouse and they searched the cargo. They found crystal meth to a street value of approximately R5.2 million. The driver was then arrested and charged accordingly,” says Mhlongo.
