Man electrocuted in PMB informal settlement
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
A man has died after being electrocuted in Pietermaritzburg's Jika Joe Informal Settlement this morning.
ER24's Russel Miering says the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, was killed after stepping on illegally connected wires.
He says the man was walking with a friend just before 9am when the incident occurred.
"On inspection, we found the patient lying in tall grass near an exposed [electric] line and had sustained severe burn wounds over most of his body.
"We assessed the patient and found that he had already succumbed to his burn wounds. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead on scene," he said.
Local authorities have since arrived on scene and disconnected the wires.
