Man drowns, light aircraft crash lands on the North Coast
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
A 24-year-old man has drowned in the Umvoti River while a light aircraft has had to make an emergency landing on Salt Rock beach.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says it's believed the man had gone swimming but was unable to make his way back to land.
"Two swimmers that were with him tried to get him out of the water but attempts failed. IPSS Medical Rescue with Police Search and Rescue conducted a search operation where a 24-year-old man was recovered and handed over to local authorities," he said.
Meanwhile, Herbst says a microlight flight had to make an emergency landing at Granny's Pool on Salt Rock beach, also on the North Coast. He says no one was hurt in the incident.
"It appears that the pilot encountered mechanical difficulties which resulted in an emergency landing. Local authorities will be doing an investigation," he said.
