Man bitten by black mamba in Ballito, KZN

A man is fighting for his life after being bitten by a black mamba in Ballito on the north coast.

The snake handler, believed to be in his 40s, had been working with the mamba at the time.

He had to be airlifted to a Durban hospital for the treatment that he required.
"IPSS paramedics together with the help of Lenmed eThekwini Hospital and Heart Centre's advanced life support paramedics treated the man," said IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst.
"The patient had been bitten by a black mamba while interacting with it on the north coast."
"He is in a critical condition."
