Man arrested for murder of seven-year-old girl
Free State police say a man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Vrede.
He was arrested following information from residents that he had been seen in the toilet ceiling at the school, said Sergeant Tshegofatso Maliehe.
The seven-year-old pupil went missing on Thursday, and was later found on Saturday in the yard of a house in Mashinini Street in Vrede, Maliehe said.
The Grade 2 pupil was last seen by her classmates and teacher when she went to the toilet at the school. She never returned.
"According to the owner of the house where the body was found, he saw what seemed to be a wrapped parcel next to the yard and alerted the police," said Maliehe.
A case of murder has been opened for further investigation.
The man would appear soon in the Vrede Magistrate's Court.
