Man to appear in Newcastle court for corruption
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A man will appear in court in Newcastle on Monday for allegedly trying to bribe a police officer.
The 42-year-old suspect was arrested in the area on Friday in an undercover operation by the Hawks.
The crime-fighting unit says he offered cash to the investigating officer in exchange for not opposing bail for his brother-in-law, who's been arrested and charged with theft of crude oil and tampering with essential infrastructure.
The man was caught apparently handing over R50 000 in cash to the detective.
He's been charged with corruption.
