Officers were called out to KwaSobabili last month following the discovery of a mutilated body of a child inside a rondavel.

The 24-year-old suspect was arrested the next day.

National Prosecution Authority (NPA) KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Natasha Kara says he briefly appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

"The 24-year-old man who was charged with the murder of a six-year-old girl last month made his second appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate's Court today.

"The man is alleged to have beheaded the child who was known to him.

"The matter was postponed to 14 December 2021, at the request of the accused's legal representative, for arrangements for him to undergo mental assessment."
