Malema for Polokwane mayor?
Updated | By News24
The Economic Freedom Fighters has denied a report that their leader Julius Malema had been endorsed as the party's mayoral candidate for Polokwane.
Spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says Malema was merely assigned to build elections machinery there.
"We don't have anyone in the EFF who is being endorsed to be a mayor. We will not be running local government elections with pre-decided mayoral candidates," said Ndlozi.
According to The Citizen newspaper, Malema was endorsed to be the mayor of his home town, Polokwane, and his deputy Floyd Shivambu and Ndlozi for Johannesburg and Tshwane respectively.
But Ndlozi says Malema and all other party leaders have been allocated municipalities and metros, simply to build elections machinery and manage party agents, branches and volunteers.
Malema is deployed in Polokwane, Shivambu in Johannesburg and national chairperson Dali Mpofu in Sedibeng.
"These are in no way endorsements for mayoral candidates," Ndlozi said.
