Malema must be stopped from inciting violence: Afriforum

AfriForum is confident it will successfully see through its latest move to stop EFF leader Julius Malema from making public statements urging supporters to occupy vacant land.

Malema has found himself in hot water recently - having made two court appearances for his comments.

He's also raised questions around the Riotous Assemblies Act of 1956, saying it protects white people and is not Constitutional in a democratic South Africa.

AfriForum's Ian Cameron says papers have been received by the EFF's lawyers, and the matter will now be heard in the Pretoria High Court.

"The fact that Malema says the things that he does and he openly incites violence - especially towards white people tells you that there is a serious problem and it will be on that basis. Firstly, it will be on incitement of violence, incitement of taking land,  incitement of crime and obviously incitement of hate speech as well," he said.

Meanwhile, Cabinet says it is concerned about Malema's recent remarks on land and race.

Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe briefed the media yesterday following Cabinet's latest meeting.

"Cabinet is concerned at the incitement of racial tensions and violence by public figures which destructs from our hard won freedom. South African's must condemn detrimental influences such as the racist assault on Rethabile Mlotshwa," he said.
