Maimane uncontested for DA leadership
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
DA leader, Mmusi Maimane has been nominated unopposed to retain his position ahead of the party's upcoming federal congress.

The party's Mabine Seabe says it's clear that members have confidence in Maimane and the party's federal council chairperson, James Selfe.
"There were three names put forward for the position of federal chairperson which include Annelie Lotriet, Solly Msimanga as well as Athol Trollip. We have a variety of names that have been thrown to contest a number of other positions. It's a diversity of people both in terms of gender, class and race. This shows that this is a party that's growing," Seabe said.

The DA's federal congress takes place on the 7th and 8th of April in Tshwane. Nominations closed on Friday.
Meanwhile, political analyst Protas Madlala feels it could be a strategic move that Maimane goes unopposed into the congress.
"Political parties [need] to maintain continuity - especially if they are still happy with their current leadership. To bring someone new in key positions will be a bit risky," Madlala said.
