Mahatma Ghandi walkers conquer 14-day march
Updated | By Portia Cele
A 14-day peace march commemorating the work of activist Mahatma Ghandi will come to an end in Inanda, north of Durban today.
The walk - estimated to be 750km long - saw Durban officials and community members join in at various pit stops.
The journey began on September 19 in Lenasia, Johannesburg and ends today at the Mahatma Gandhi Settlement in Inanda.
Yesterday, walkers - that were over 700km into the journey - traipsed through Pinetown and were arrived in Chatsworth.
Organisers say the inaugural march has been a massive success thus far.
Beryl Govender, who is with Rising Sun Community Newspapers, says the support received from Durban has been phenomenal.
"The support received along the route from communities has been phenomenal - in each town residents supported our team by completing a few kilometre. The publsi have been generous with their donations which will go towards the Ghandi Trust," she said.
