Madonsela's Glebelands visit brings hope
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the Public Protector's intervention at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi south of Durban.
After her visit to the area on Monday, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, met with Human Settlements, eThekwini and police officials to address several issues.
IFP MPL Blessed Gwala says the party has tried in vain to get local government and the municipality to intervene at the hostel.
He says promises, allegedly made by the premier, to make the hostel safer by putting up fences and security measures have yielded no fruit.
Gwala says many of those who have been killed at the hostel were IFP members adding that the party believes Madonsela's visit will make a difference.
''I think that the Public Protector will do better than the provincial government as well as the municipality of eThekwini and the police,'' he said.
