Madonsela describes the ideal successor
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela says her successor should be better than her.

Madonsela was speaking at the Labour Law Conference taking place in Kempton Park.
Her comments come as Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee is currently sitting to decide on one of the five people who have been short-listed for the position.
Madonsela remarked on what she expected from next Public Protector.

"My view is that the next public protector shouldn't be like me or do what I was doing. They should come from a different level and tackle the weaknesses of what we've done in the last term.
"Even though we have done beautifully and grateful for all of the accolades we're getting, we are also realistic in terms of which areas we need to strengthen.
"One of the areas is having quiet conversations with people in government to find out what's right and what's wrong," she said.
Madonsela's term comes to an end in October where the successor will then assume a seven-year tenure.
Here are the shortlisted candidates.
- Western Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai
- Johannesburg High Court, Sharise Weiner
- Security Agency, advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane
- Former prosecutor Bongani Majola
- Pensions Fund adjudicator advocate Muvhango Lukhaimane
