Mabuza resignation a calculated move - analyst

A political analyst believes outgoing deputy president David Mabuza's resignation was a calculated move.

Mabuza announced on Saturday that he will be stepping down from his position.
Levy Ndou says Mabuza's resignation was expected after he declined to be nominated for election at the ANC’s national conference in December.
"That for me, talks about the character of someone who has the highest level of discipline and who has been able to read the mood on the ground and decide to step down in order to give the position to those who have been elected."
Ndou believes Mabuza's tenure in government has been dismal but this would not preclude the ANC from redeploying him in other positions within government.
Mabuza is set to be replaced by Paul Mashatile, who was elected as ANC deputy president at the national conference.
