Residents heading to work, dropping their children off at school or making deliveries have had to endure major road closures as a result of several protests this morning.

The M19 was the worst affected route in the vicinity of Mounbatten Drive between Westville and the Umgeni Road interchange.

Police say protesters also stoned vehicles there earlier this morning.

"Being stuck in this protest is becoming really annoying. People are protesting - is government not going to do anything about it? I mean, we as the people going to work everyday have to pay the ultimate price,"  one motorist said.

"It's bad today. It's a real blue Monday," another added.

"Durban is all traffic - I'm coming from the North of Durban near Gateway. It's taken half an hour," a Durban North resident said.

"It happens more and more frequently in Reservoir Hills than anywhere else. We don't even understand why they are striking. So many parents are worried how their children are coming home from school because the transport operators don't know what route to take," a Reservor Hills parent said.

The N2 near the old Durban International Airport was affected earlier. Officers were also sent to several sites in the Mobeni area as well.
