Low blood stock levels in KZN raises concerns
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The South African National Blood Service says there's less than a day’s worth of stock left in KwaZulu-Natal.

It's appealing to the public to step forward and make blood donations.
The SANBS says KZN isn't the only concern, with less than two day’s worth of blood left for blood type O, nationally.
That's just 2 000 units in the country.

The figures are bringing unease to officials with the New Years long weekend kicking off on Friday.
The SANBS says with South Africans travelling, potential road accidents may add pressure on the country's blood supply.
Officials say trauma incidents make up only a fraction of the demand.
More is needed for childbirth, cancer patients and other life-threatening situations.
