The organisation sprung into action the same time lockdown affected schools and their feeding schemes.

The NGO's Robyn Gruijters (GRATERS) says for the majority of the children who live in the poorer communities in the Midlands,  the scheme would be the only meal they would get that day.

"I was so burdened with the fact that so many of our local children rely so heavily on the feeding scheme and the nutrition programme that is run through the schools. I was desperate so I thought well, what's going to happen to these kids, for a lot of them it's the only meal they get a day and I just knew we had to do something and it all began as a simple idea.

She says during the height of the hard lockdown Action in Isolation fed an excess of 6 000 children a week across 7 different feeding centres. " We managed the nutrition and made sure the children were fed properly at the little schools.

We still support one of our original feeding centres and we also have a group on Sunday now. One of our communities is incredibly poor so we feed those on Friday but by Sunday they probably haven't had anything else to eat since."
