Long to-do list waiting for incoming eThekwini mayor
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A political analyst says eThekwini's incoming mayor will have a lot on his plate, including sorting out the city's service delivery challenges, municipal debt, vagrant issues, and crime.

A new mayor will be elected to the council on Wednesday.
Durban has been without a mayor since the ANC decided to redeploy Mxolisi Kaunda to the National Council of Provinces.
The troubled eThekwini Municipality is currently being monitored under section 154 of the Constitution in an effort to restore it to its former glory.

Analyst Zakhele Ndlovu believes Cyril Xaba is highly likely to replace Kaunda.
Xaba has served as an MPL in KZN and MEC for Agriculture.
"We expect him to make sure that the clean-up of eThekwini, it is very dirty and that they get rid of homeless people who have chased tourists away. Durban used to be a tourist attraction, but it is no longer, and crime is rampant."
