Lockdown puts hold on adoptions in KZN

A Durban-based baby home says it's been navigating a number of challenges since the start of the lockdown more than 50-days ago.

The Upper Highway Baby Home, near Hillcrest, says the lockdown's put a hold on adoptions.
Kerry Stanton says due to the restrictions, they've found themselves operating above normal capacity due to an increase in child abandonment.

Stanton says despite the financial challenges they've been able to put the needs of their babies first:
"All of our international adoptions and some of our local adoptions have bee suspended due to lockdown.
"Although babies are very safe and happy with us, our hearts are currently bleeding for parents everywhere. some of them have been waiting for seven years to have their precious little sausage and now they are still here with us. We continue to love and care for the little ones."
