Local NGO opens hospital in Syria
Aid organisation, Gift of the Givers, has opened a second hospital in war-torn Syria as the humanitarian crisis continues.
The organisation's founder Imtiaaz Sooliman says the rate at which millions of Syrians are seeking refugee status in parts Europe is indicative of a major catastrophe in Syria.
Sooliman says a field hospital was opened in Darkush in 2013 but the influx of refugees, patient overload and threat of attack demanded further interventions.
The new hospital which opened yesterday was donated by the Turkish Red Crescent.
"For the security of the hospital, medical staff and the patients and for increased care. There was a need to open a second hospital closer to the Darkush border for security purposes. And also to cater for the increase in patient count which the first hospital can't cater for anymore," he said.
