Local govt has a responsibility to the people: Ramaphosa

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has stressed the important role local government plays in the daily lives of ordinary citizens.

He's been speaking at the South African Local Government Association (Salga) national conference in Sandton, Johannesburg - where he's stressed the important role local government has to play in citizens' daily lives.
The conference is being convened by the National Executive Committee of Salga, under the theme: "Inspiring Service Delivery: Building a Sustainable, Responsive & People Centred Local Government System".

Ramaphosa says local governement is regarded as teh voice of the people.
"Our responsibility is to ensure that all structures of local government, in all parts of our country, serve all of our people, all the time. That is why we value and cherish an organization such as Salga - as they're answering our citizens' call for a responsive and people-oriented local government," he said.
