Load shedding makes dreaded return
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Eskom says it will implement Stage 1 load shedding on Wednesday night following a shortage in generation capacity.
The power utility’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the shortage is due to breakdowns and delays in returning generator units to service.
“This has resulted in the unplanned unavailability of 14 719MW of capacity. A further 2 220MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.”
The power cuts will take effect at 5pm and lights are expected back at 10pm.
Eskom teams are working to return more generators to service as soon as possible.
He warns the system may remain under pressure for the rest of the week.
“Should the generators not return as expected, further load shedding might be required during the week.”
