The utility says it has managed to return eight out of 10 generation units to service.

"This follows the successful recovery of all five units at Majuba, two units at Camden, and one unit at Medupi since Saturday," said spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.

She said they are pleased with efforts to replenish emergency reserves.

"The return of these units comes after identifying the root causes of multiple unit trips, which were unconnected and purely technical in nature, and were related to electrical and control system issues in the auxiliary parts of these power stations."

The country was plunged into Stage 6 loadshedding in the early hours of Sunday, after multiple generation unit failures at two power stations.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Eskom officials gave an update on generation performance, saying the country should brace for a few days of the rolling blackouts.

Eskom's Nyati Mthethwa has acknowledged that they have not been giving one production area enough attention.

"We are starting to have problems in the auxillary plants, in the water systems, and in the steam systems. They are not part of the main area of the main plant that we have been focusing on.

"This is really telling us that we need to now put a lot of effort in making sure that these auxillary plants are also [in] perfect condition."
