The commission was left in the dark when load shedding delayed the process on Tuesday.

The IEC's Ntombifuthi Masinga says several municipalities, including eThekwini, were affected.

"We have been given assurance that these areas may be isolated by affected municipalities so that it doesn't interfere with the capturing of the results is these, but unfortunately, I was with a team in eThekwini at the Moses Mabhida Stadium yesterday when power went off at 10pm.

"Unfortunately, the generator capacity there is good for mainly lighting, it is not very helpful with the kind of operation that we are running."

Masinga says result capturing has since resumed.

"The other municipality hard-hit was Umsunduzi, we were expecting 714 results from Umsunduzi Municipality.

"They had only captured 461 before they were hit by load shedding yesterday and the other big one is Mtuba we were expecting 264 results - they had captured 160 when load shedding hit."
