Load shedding blamed for Durban water interruptions
Updated | By Newswatch
Load shedding is causing water supply interruptions in several areas north of Durban.
eThekwini Municipality says supply at the Hazelmere Water Treatment Works and the eThekwini Waterloo System is affected.
It says as a result, the Waterloo and Katzkop reservoirs are struggling to fill up.
They supply areas including Ottawa, Waterloo, Valdin Heights, Southridge, Umdloti, Parkgate, Aloe Drive, Riyadh and Hammond’s Farm.
City spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says technicians are isolating the outlets of the two reservoirs from this evening until Thursday morning to build up storage.
"So we have now to build capacity between 10pm and 3am for the public to be able to have access to water when we open it after those hours.
"We are appealing to the public to bear with us. It a situation that is beyond our control and in the event that water is available, let's try out level best to use water sparingly.
"We are also mobilising water tankers to also augment the water provision during this difficult period."
