"And we will maintain Stage 2 until 5 o'clock tomorrow morning, Friday, and we will then be in a position to lift load shedding as by then the system will have sufficiently recovered that we can continue to operate and meet normal demand."

De Ruyter briefed the media on Thursday morning on the various challenges facing the power producer as well as the ongoing electricity crisis.

"We are still carrying on with our planned maintenance, we are doing maintenance on capacity of 7 030 megawatts.

"Unplanned four outages today amount to 5 755 megawatts. Partial load losses at this point in time is 4 256, now that's a significant improvement from where we were."

Du Ruyter believes these energy-saving tips will make a big difference.

"When you leave a room and you switch off the light, if all households were to switch off just one unnecessary light, that will save about 835 megawatts, that's a huge number.

"That is more than one unit at a big power station. If you replace the old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs, hopefully, there aren't too many of those around anymore, we can reduce our evening demand by about 765 megawatts."
