Little Amy's brave fight ends
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
The parents of a little Durban girl who died yesterday after battling a heart condition hope their daughter's story will encourage more conversation around organ donation.
Five-old Amy Miller was on the heart organ donor list after being born with a Congenital Heart Defect.
This meant the left side of her heart was severely underdeveloped, resulting in the right side of her heart doing all the work of pumping blood to her body.
Amy had her first of several operations at just six days old.
Her mum Natasha, who resigned from her job to look after her child full-time, says her baby girl put up a good fight in her five short years.
She hopes there will be greater awareness and urgency around heart defects and organ donation.
"They harvested her corneas which will give two kids eyesight so her eyes will live on through someone else. They've managed to harvest some of her tissues and bone that can be used for certain procedures so even though her little body was so broken she still gave gifts to people," she said.
Such a sad day today, Amy has gone to be with the Lord. Thank you to those for their continued support in following her...
