LISTEN: New policy for children entering SA

Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi has changed the policy around foreign national children entering the country.

A waiver was signed on Friday, which will allow young foreign national tourists entry into the country without additional supporting documents such as birth certificates, consent letters or any other supporting information relating to proof of parentage.


Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza says this improvement builds on the work done to contribute to economic growth and development that will help boost the tourism sector. 

Qoza says young and old tourists entering the countrty is still be required to produce passports. 

"Everyone who comes into the country still needs a passport. That is the document that we use to track and monitor the movement of people," he said. 


"He signed this waiver because the department recognises that it got a role to play in economic growth an development and we are hoping that the tourism sector will benefit from the move," he said. 


However, South African children are still required to provide supporting documents, in line with the Children’s Act.
