Customers were first informed about the problem on Saturday via SMS, two days after the insurance company became aware of the hack.

Its CEO, David Munro confirmed that Liberty has been subject to illegal and unauthorised access to its IT infrastructure:

Munro addressed the media in Johannesburg last night.

He stressed that there is currently no need for customers to worry about their policies and investments.

"There is no evidence at this point in time that there is any financial loss for any of our customers. Likewise, all of our policies and contracts remain in force," he said.

Liberty Life customers who are concerned have been asked to call the company directly or contact your financial advisor.

Clients can send an Email query to [email protected] or call 0860 456 789 for more information.
