LISTEN: Father of Shahiel Sewpujun forgives son's murderers
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The father of 9-year-old Shahiel Sewpujun hopes the women sentenced for his son's murder use their time in jail to repent.
Shahiel's body was found in a storm water drain in Phoenix, north of Durban 21-months-ago.
32-year-old Kavitha Naicker and 56-year-old Rajwanthie Haripersadh, both related to the boy, were sentenced in the Durban High Court yesterday.
Naicker was handed a life term, while Haripersadh was sentenced to 25-years behind bars.
Shaheer Sewpujun says he's forgiven the women but lives with the sorrow of knowing his son was killed.
He says - while the sentence won't bring Shahiel back, it's justice served nevertheless.
"I have some peace of mind. For them, all I want to say is pray that they have a long life because they need every second to repent," he said.
The trial sparked outrage and an outpour of grief in Phoenix. The community rallied together to find the missing boy.
