Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A Newlands East man who found the baby girl who was rescued from deep within a storm water drain, says he is overjoyed that she is okay.
Just after 6am this morning, Iyron Lovedale was walking along Baracuda Road when he heard what he at first thought was a cat crying.
Emergency workers from across the city worked for almost three hours to dig down to the pipe the baby was trapped within.
Lovedale remained at the scene right until she was pulled out and airlifted to a local hospital.
Lovedale, who is a father himself, was over the moon with the outcome.
UPDATE: Baby girl recovered following hours-long rescue
"I'm just happy, you can hear it from my voice, that the baby is out and has been rescued. Somebody who is looking for a child, might take that baby," he said.
