[LISTEN] 19-hour water cut: Will help avoid four months of disruptions

Umgeni Water says the planned 19-hour shutdown in parts of Durban, effective from 1 am tomorrow, gives the city time to repair a failed scour valve and avoid potential disruptions for up to four months.

 

The water supplier's Shami Harichunder says a fault found on the line of two aqueducts, 3 and 4 which needs urgent attention. 

 

"What is happening is we need to do a scouring exercise and the valve needs to be replaced or repaired. The bulk of the time allocated for the work is going to be for the draining of the pipe and recharge the line. The work will start tomorrow morning,” Harichunder said.

 

Communities from the north, central and inner west part of Durban will be affected.
