Liquor industry withdraws crowd event sponsorship
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The country's alcohol industry has withdrawn brand support for festive season events.
Urging compliance with COVID-19 regulations the liquor brand owners have distanced themselves from activities that draw crowds that exceed the regulations of 50% capacity.
The industry's concerns come as the second wave of infections has started to sweep over the country.
Sibani Mngadi is the South African Liquor Brandowners Association Chair.
"We wanted to make our contribution towards reducing the rate of infections in the country", he said.
"Therefore we will not be sponsoring events and hope all traders will comply and that event organisers will understand", Mngadi said.
