Lindokuhle Cele's family wants harsh sentence for convicted killer

The family of Lindokuhle Cele is calling for a harsh sentence to be imposed against the man found guilty of murdering the LGBTQI activist.

The Durban High Court heard how Mvuyisi Noguda had stabbed the 23-year-old musician multiple times at an Umlazi butchery last year -- in an apparent homophobic attack.

As prosecutors and the defence prepare to present their arguments in aggravation and mitigation of sentence -- Cele's aunt, Nombuso, had this to say.
"As a family, we have mixed emotions. We are both happy and sad at the same time. To be told that the guy will not get a life sentence, we were hoping for that.
Vee ka Nkosi - who's from an organisation that advocates for sexual health - Aurum Pop Inn - says this case will prove that homophobia is a serious crime.

"I feel it's a plus for the LGBTQ plus community to say that somebody who has taken our siblings life is finally being put to rest.
"We are finally seeing where it's going. We will learn what is the future of the perpetrator. It's a positive, but I think more needs to be done."
