A northern KZN man has begun serving a life sentence for the rape of his daughter.

The Nkandla Regional Court handed down the hefty sentence to the 55-year-old.
He was found guilty of abusing the girl for almost six years, from 2009 when she was 8-years-old.
The attacks took place when his wife, and her mother, was either out of the house or on the other side of the house.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says in her victim impact statement, the child said the trauma she suffered left her with deep emotional and physical scars.
"In her statement, the girl said that she is filled with grief, fear and hatred following her ordeal. She said that she has suffered both emotional and physical scars and feels ashamed of what has happened.
“The man was sentenced accordingly, and the court ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
