A metered taxi driver convicted of raping a pregnant teen has been handed a life sentence.

The Madadeni Regional Court heard the 14-year-old girl was attacked in 2021 while on her way home after visiting her boyfriend's house.
"However, en route, the man pretended to look for a petrol station and eventually took the girl to a secluded spot, where he raped her," said the NPA's Natasha Kara.
The 31-year-old man , who was sentenced on Wednesday, was known to the boyfriend.
"He then gave her water to wash so that there would be no traces of his DNA.
"The girl immediately reported the incident to her boyfriend, who informed some community members, and the man was apprehended," said Kara.
The girl was taken to the Madadeni Thuthuzela Care Centre, where she received psycho-social support and counseling but subsequently suffered a miscarriage.
