Life of SA woman in UK 'at risk if deported'

The British Home Office cancelled removal directions for Myrtle Cothill last week pending the results of the assessment.

She'd initially been told to check herself in for deportation at London's Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

A frail Cothill arrived in the UK on a six month visitor's visa in 2014. She then applied for permanent residency.

The UK government says this should have been done prior to her arrival in the country.

Her barrister Jan Doerfel says Cothill needs her daughter.

"Due to her own specific history, she will see a separation from her daughter as equivalent to an actual loss of her daughter. She has gone into her personal history, she's previously lost her husband shortly before her daughter, Mary was due to be born," he said.
