It is after he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Phindile Thwala in October 2021 in the Nkomazini area near Estcourt.

Thwala and Ndlovu were in a relationship until she got a protection order against him, after it turned abusive.

Ndlovu was also given the 11 years imprisonment for being in unlawful possession of a firearm with an erased serial number and ammunition when he was arrested by the police 10 days after the murder.

"Ndlovu was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, eight years imprisonment for unlawful possession of the prohibited firearm and three years imprisonment for the unlawful possession of ammunition. He will effectively serve a term of life imprisonment," said the NPA's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara.

A women's rights organisation has welcomed the sentence handed down to the killer.

Director of the KZN Network on Violence Against Women Cookie Edwards said this sentence will send out a strong message to other perpetrators.

"We had a problem with the justice system not giving the perpetrators the sentences that they deserve, but I think in this case, we need to applaud them that they are really taking note of the high increase of femicide in our country."
