Life behind bars for KZN man who raped two women
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A 27-year-old northern KZN man has begun serving a life sentence for the rape of two women in Osizweni in 2016.
Bonginkosi Nhleko was further sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Madadeni Regional Court yesterday after pleading guilty to the crimes.
In the first case, it's understood that Nhleko went to an 18-year-old victim's home knowing her partner was not there.
Police say he knocked on the door – pretending to be the victim's partner and then raped her at knifepoint.
Nhleko was arrested days after.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says the state opposed bail in the matter but it was granted anyway.

Kara says while out on bail, Nhleko attacked a 21-year-old woman who was returning home from a neighbours house.
She says his DNA was used to link him to both cases. " The role of DNA in these matters and how it can assist with identification is noted. Especially in cases where the perpetrator is unknown to the victims."
"It thus becomes important for victims to report matters as early as possible to enable the scientific process to be followed. The NPA will continue to focus on the prosecution of GBV matters."
