Liezel de Jager family laments slow pace of murder probe

The family of slain Amanzimtoti reverend Liezel de Jager says the slow pace of the investigation into her death two years ago left them feeling frustrated and hopeless.

Her husband Werner de Jager, who was arrested when the police's Cold Case Unit took over the case, was ordered to remain behind bars on Thursday.

The matter will continue in January.

Liezel de Jager, who was a reverend at NG Kerk Suidkus, was found strangled to death at their home.

Family spokesperson Ian Cameron, who's with Action Society, says initially there was no movement in the investigation.

"In this case, specifically relating to the police, I think it's an absolute atrocity. The captain from Brighton Beach, he messed up, and there was zero real interest in solving the matter.

"Why then did the Cold Case Unit have to get involved? We did have to go so far as in sending a summons to the police to compile them to do their jobs, it's really frustrating."
