LGBTIQA+ activist stabbed to death in Umlazi
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The KZN provincial government has reiterated its call for society to unite in ending attacks on the LGBTIQA+ community.
Last week, 32-year-old Pinky Shongwe was stabbed in Durban to death in an alleged homophobic attack.
It's alleged Shongwe had rejected a man's advances.
KZN Social Development spokesperson Mhlaba Memela says they hope justice will be served.
"The MEC for Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal Nonhlanhla Khoza has sent her heartfelt condolences to the family of Shongwe, a young lady that was murdered in the area of Umlazi.
"We are hoping that law enforcement agencies will work around the clock to ensure that the perpetrator gets arrested and pay for their sins."
Shongwe will be laid to rest in Gcilima village on the south coast on Sunday.
