Lekgotla focuses on SA efforts to improve air quality
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A three-day air quality lekgotla is underway in the Northern Cape - as South Africa pushes towards global environmental compliance.

Experts are gathering in Kimberly to share solutions that have been adopted by other nations.
Environmental Affairs spokesperson, Albi Modise, says there'll also be a focus on the management of emissions as the country aims for better air quality management by 2020.
Modise says our biggest challenge remains our carbon footprint - as we still rely heavily on fossil fuels such as coal.
"A lot of pollution comes from factories - and the power stations. Therefore, it's important that as we map the way forward - we map out programmes to reduce air quality while also addressing the issue of ensuring that those particular power stations that need to come into line with the new regime of air quality are repositioned to reduce potential harm as South Africans," Modise said.
