Legal expert disagrees with Pistorius, state ruling
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A Durban-based legal expert does not agree with yesterday's high court decision to reject the State's application for leave to appeal Oscar Pistorius's murder sentence.

Yesterday Judge Thokozile Masipa dismissed - with costs - the state's bid to challenge the 6 years imprisonment that Pistorius was handed last month. Pistorius was found guilty of murder after his initial conviction for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, was overturned.
Sunil Singh, of Sunil Singh and Associates, does not believe the athlete is genuinely remorseful and does not agree with the sentence he received.
"If he was truly remorseful then why did he not enter into a plea bargain with the state at the very beginning but instead drag the case to such an extent. If one is really remorseful for what they have done they do not undertake a marathon trial and then apologise for what has happened," he said.
"If you are truly sorry you display that at the beginning of the trial and perhaps cut a deal around Culpable Homicide and prepare to spend 5 or 10 years behind bars, or whatever it may be," Singh said.
