Lectures at UKZN expected to resume
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Classes are expected to resume at four of the University of KwaZulu-Natal campuses today. Management issued a statement yesterday saying lectures will kick-off again at the Howard College, Westville, Edgewood and Pietermartizburg campuses.
UKZN issued a short statement late yesterday afternoon confirming the development. While no further details were given, the announcement comes after a series of violent student protests at the institution last week.
Students leading the protest action said they were unhappy with the admissions process, security patrols and post-graduate funding.
UKZN then announced that it had decided to close the four campuses in an effort to protect non-protesting students as well as staff and property.
Further details posted on the varsity's official Facebook page said the Executive Management and student leadership met for two days of intense engagement on the issues concerned.
Staff have been requested to have all tests and assignments postponed until next week.
