At least 8 killed in weekend tavern shootings

The police in Gauteng are searching for an unknown number of suspects following a random tavern shooting that claimed six lives in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

The attack took place on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the victims were sitting outside when a group of unknown men came from nowhere and started shooting at the victims.
"Six were declared dead on the scene while one was taken to hospital. The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown at this stage, and no suspects have been arrested as yet.
"The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela, has mobilised extra resources.
“The police request anyone who may have information that can assist the investigations to contact the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously report tip-offs on MySaps App. All information received will be treated as strictly confidential," said Nevhuhulwi.

She says police investigations are underway.
At the same time, police in Mpumalanga province are searching for two suspects following a mass shooting at a tavern in Kanyamazane, outside Nelspruit.
Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said one person died on the scene, while another person succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Fourteen others were wounded and are recovering in hospital.
Two of the 14 victims are in a critical condition.
Mdhluli said the suspects stormed the tavern in the early hours of Sunday morning.
"According to information, two armed men wearing balaclavas stormed into the liquor outlet just after midnight and then opened fire indiscriminately. After the shooting, the suspects are said to have fled the scene.”
