In the most recent accident, a family of three sustained fatal injuries in a crash in Murchison. On the N2 , between eSikhawini and eMpangeni, two people died during a head on collision. A crash between a bakkie and a car on Friday night on the P68 between St Faiths and Highflats in the Harry Gwala District resulted in the deaths of seven people.

Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie says four other people had to be rushed to hospital. Mckenzie has urged those travelling on the province's roads to be extra vigilant.

"As KZN EMS we would like to send our most sincere condolences to the families of the victims of these crashes," he said.

We would also like to remind people to drive cautiously on the roads. Do not drink and drive and do not exceed the speed limit", McKenzie said.

Meanwhile, last month the Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said her department's main concern right now were the increasing amount of accidents that take place during weekends countrywide.
