Learning resumes at Hoërskool Driehoek on Wednesday

The Gauteng Department of Education says Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark will reopen its doors on Wednesday.

Teaching and learning will resume in stages at the school in the south of Gauteng.
Condolences are pouring in following the death of four pupils after a walkway collapsed at the school on Friday.
More than 20 pupils were injured in the tragedy.

Provincial education spokesperson, Steve Mabona says engineers gave officials the green light to open certain parts of the school on Wednesday.
He says temporary structures will be erected after certain areas, including the walkway, were declared crime scenes.
Pupils will be prohibited from entering those parts of the school.
“All the Grade 12 learners will be expected to back on Wednesday. They will start with the curriculum on a lower scale. On Thursday, grade 11 learners will also have to come back where the other grades will go back on Monday.”
Mabona says probes into the quality of infrastructure of the school are still underway.
