Learners, teachers should have reported sexual abuse at school sooner: Sadtu

Teacher Union, Sadtu, has lashed out at teachers and learners at the Ekucabangeni High School in Nquthu for not speaking out sooner about the sexual abuse reported to have taken place at the school.

A KZN teacher was on Thursday suspended with immediate effect after a video surfaced of him having sex with a learner. Six other learners have now also come forward saying they had been abused by the teacher.

The union's Nomarashiya Caluza says if learners and teachers had spoken out sooner the matter could have come to lighter earlier.

"Why were teachers and other learners silent about this?," she said.

"It is high time that we expose them so that they are dealt with by the law and by within the society itself," Caluza said.
