Law expert Pierre de Vos facing criminal complaint over 'child pornography tweet'
Updated | By Algoa FM
The organisation AfriForum says its youth structure has laid a criminal complaint against UCT constitutional law expert and political commentator Pierre de Vos.
AfriForum Youth says child pornography was posted on his Twitter profile on 11 September.
The criminal complainant was made at Humewood Police Station in Gqeberha on Wednesday in accordance with the relevant section of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
AfriFroum Youth spokesperson Rene' van der Vyver says they trust that police will investigate this matter thoroughly.
"It is unacceptable that a prominent figure could possibly be guilty of such atrocities without a thorough investigation."
"Child pornography contributes to the child trafficking industry, which is a growing problem in South Africa. We, therefore, cannot ignore this incident."
Meanwhile, De Vos reportedly said that his Twitter account had been hacked and that he had deleted the tweets and changed his password.
He claims that AfriForum's action is in response to his criticism of their hate-speech case against EFF leader Julius Malema.
1) Last week my Twitter account was hacked and tweeted porn. I deleted the tweets and changed my password. But Afriforum Youth now says it will lodge a criminal complaint against me. Not surprising given the criticism I levelled against their hate speech case against Mr Malema.
