Late historian Ken Gillings remembered
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Tributes continue to pour in for a well-known historian Ken Gillings, who drowned while snorkelling at Cape Vidal on the north coast, on Friday.

Gillings dedicated around 40 years of his life to researching and conducting tours around the province's battlegrounds.
His wife, Heather, says the family has received much support from the public - which she believes speaks volumes about her husband, who she says made friends wherever he went.

"Ken specifically requested in his will that there is no memorial - as suggested on Facebook, which Ken was an avid follower of. [He asked] that people should just drink a toast to him in their own time and their own space," she said.
I spent 10 days on tour with @KenGillings 3 weeks ago & was just staggered to hear the news of his passing this morning. R I P
